Cradle-to-Grave Freight Broker / Account Manager / Remote
Position Overview
We are seeking a driven, self-motivated Cradle-to-Grave Freight Broker to own the full lifecycle of freight shipments from customer acquisition through final delivery and billing. This role combines new business development with hands‑on operations: sourcing freight, quoting, securing capacity, managing shipments, and ensuring accurate, timely settlement. You will work end‑to‑end on every load while building and growing your own book of business. Candidates with a transferable book of business (free of non‑solicit or non‑compete restrictions) are strongly preferred; house accounts and support from corporate sales will also be available to help you ramp quickly. As you grow, we will build around you with dedicated carrier sales support, junior brokers, and clear growth opportunities into leadership or larger account ownership.
Key Responsibilities
- Solicit and develop new business through outbound prospecting, cold calling, networking, and relationship building with shippers and beneficial cargo owners.
- Bring and grow a transferable book of business (preferred) free of non-solicit or non-compete restraints; house accounts and corporate sales support will be provided as additional volume.
- Respond to and prepare RFPs (Requests for Proposal), formal bids, and ongoing contract opportunities.
- Provide competitive spot quotes and negotiate rates with customers and carriers to maximize margin while meeting service requirements.
- Source, qualify, and negotiate with carriers for capacity on truckload, LTL, intermodal, and other modes as needed.
- Manage the complete shipment lifecycle: booking, dispatch, tracking & tracing, proactive exception management, and delivery confirmation using industry tools (e.g., Macropoint, FourKites, Project44, or similar visibility platforms).
- Utilize and maintain the company’s Transportation Management System (TMS) for load entry, documentation, status updates, and accurate billing/invoicing.
- Monitor and resolve issues related to delays, claims, accessorials, and carrier performance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both customers and carriers to drive retention, volume growth, and preferential capacity.
- Achieve individual production goals for revenue, margin, and new business acquisition while delivering excellent customer service.
- Scale your desk as volume grows—supported by carrier sales resources and junior brokers assigned to assist you—while pursuing internal growth opportunities.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in freight brokerage, logistics, or transportation sales/operations (cradle-to-grave experience strongly preferred).
- Existing transferable book of business without non‑solicit or non‑compete restrictions preferred; ability to succeed with house accounts and corporate sales support also valued.
- Strong understanding of truckload, LTL, and broader supply‑chain dynamics.
- Demonstrated success in cold calling, prospecting, and closing new business.
- Comfortable negotiating rates with both shippers and carriers.
- Experience with TMS platforms and real‑time tracking/visibility tools.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills; ability to manage multiple loads and priorities under time pressure.
- Self‑starter with a competitive, results‑oriented mindset and a strong work ethic.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent industry experience accepted.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work standard business hours with flexibility for after‑hours shipment issues as needed.
Competitive base salary + uncapped commission structure based on gross margin and new business performance. High performers have significant earnings potential.
- Full benefits package available.
We invest in successful brokers by building support teams around you (carrier sales and junior brokers) and offering clear paths for advancement as your book grows.
This is a true cradle‑to‑grave role ideal for someone who wants ownership of the entire process—from winning the freight to getting paid—and building a lasting book of business. Candidates bringing a clean, transferable book are highly preferred, while house accounts, corporate sales support, and the commitment to scale resources around high performers ensure a strong foundation and long‑term growth.
