Job summary

Turo Inc. seeks a Senior Director, Fraud Prevention to lead verification, identity fraud prevention, and pre-trip investigations.

You will own the strategy, architecture, and playbooks that determine access to Turo, reporting to the Chief Risk Officer and partnering with Product, Engineering, Legal and Claims. You will manage a multi-tier team across in-house and vendor operations, build QA frameworks, and drive platform controls and automated tooling to reduce false positives while preserving

Qualifications

• 12 to 15+ years of experience in fraud prevention, identity risk, Trust & Safety, or related fields.
• 10+ years of people management experience, including experience managing managers and overseeing both in house teams and third party vendor environments.
• Deep expertise in identity verification, account fraud, document fraud, synthetic identity, account takeover, and pre transaction risk decisioning.
• Strong knowledge of fraud tooling vendors and the trade offs between building internal solutions and purchasing third party technology.
• Ability to work hands on with data, including proficiency with SQL, Excel, Google Sheets, or data visualization tools.
• Experience partnering with Data Science and Engineering teams to develop and refine fraud detection models.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence executive stakeholders, present to board members, and guide cross functional partners with clarity and confidence.
• Professional certifications such as CFE or CPP are a bonus.
• Direct experience with fraud and verification tools such as Sift, Socure, Ekata, Persona, or similar platforms.
• Experience with payment fraud and payment processors such as Stripe.
• Experience within mobility, automotive, or marketplace platforms.

Responsibilities

• Own the end to end Verification & Identity Fraud Strategy, including verification tooling and risk-based decisioning.
• Lead pre-trip fraud investigations, risk scoring, and escalation protocols for fast, accurate decisions.
• Build and lead a multi tiered team across verification operations and fraud investigations with in-house and vendor components.
• Drive cross functional platform development with Product and Engineering for automated fraud tooling and risk controls.
• Synthesize risk signals and metrics into clear narratives and KPIs for senior leadership.
