Job summary

Fyda Freightliner Columbus is seeking an experienced Technician to straighten damaged frames on heavy- and medium-duty trucks and perform related body repairs. You will use frame racks, hydraulic presses, and blueprints to restore frames to specification, replacing panels and applying welds when needed.

You will work with various materials including steels and aluminum, conduct post-repair inspections, document parts used, and communicate progress to the shop foreman.

Qualifications

• Team oriented, flexible, and focused on customer service.
• Past experience with a frame rack to straighten frames.
• Basic Heavy and Medium Duty Truck knowledge is ideal but not necessary.
• Maintains sufficient personally owned tools.
• Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
• Follows National DOT guidelines and tests for marijuana.

Responsibilities

• Position the damaged vehicle onto the frame rack using clamps and chains.
• Measure and pinpoint misaligned sections with specialized equipment and blueprints.
• Use hydraulic presses and frame racks to restore frame to original shape and specs.
• Remove or replace damaged body panels and structural parts, applying welding where needed.
• Work with mild steels, high-strength steels, and aluminum, using appropriate joining techniques.
• Conduct post-repair inspections to ensure safety and quality, including road tests if needed.
• Document repairs and parts used for each vehicle.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow safety policies.
• Communicate status with shop foreman and learn new techniques.
• Complete tasks efficiently and on time.

Fyda Freightliner Columbus is an Elite Support Certified dealer of new Freightliner, Western Star, Isuzu and Ottawa trucks, and carries a large inventory of all-makes of pre-owned trucks. Serving the Columbus transportation industry hub since 1985, we operate as a full-service commercial truck dealership and body shop collision center.Technician Responsibilities:Positioning and securing the damaged vehicle onto the frame rack using specialized clamps and chains.Using specialized equipment and blueprints to measure and pinpoint misaligned sections of the frame or unibody structure.Employing hydraulic presses and frame racks to apply controlled forces and manipulate the frame back into its original shape and specifications.Removing or replacing damaged body panels and structural parts, utilizing techniques like welding for repairs.Working with various materials used in modern vehicle construction, including mild steels, high-strength steels, and aluminum, and applying appropriate joining technologies.Performing thorough post-repair inspections to ensure the frame meets all safety and quality standards, including potential road tests.Documenting repairs performed and parts used for each vehicle.Completes service and repair assignments efficiently, safely, and correctly to pass quality inspections.Maintain a clean and safe work environment while complying with company safety policies and procedures.Communicate directly with shop foreman regarding the status of the repair work.Continuously learn new technical information and techniques.Performs quality repairs while keeping on-time status in mind.Technician Qualifications:Team oriented, flexible, and focused on maintaining a high level of customer service.Working knowledge of shop equipment.Past experience working with a frame rack to straighten framesBasic Heavy and Medium Duty Truck knowledge is ideal but not necessaryMaintains sufficient personally owned tools.Ability to work independently.Detail oriented and quality driven.Must be able to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug screening.
