Job summary

Fyda Freightliner Columbus is seeking an experienced frame and structural repair technician to join our Columbus shop. You will align frames, remove damaged panels, weld where needed, and ensure all repairs pass safety and quality inspections.

Ideal candidates have hands-on frame-rack experience with heavy/MD trucks, strong shop equipment knowledge, and a dedication to detail and customer service. This is a full-time on-site role with safety and DOT guidelines emphasized.

Qualifications

Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
Team oriented with strong customer service focus.
Experience with shop equipment and frame straightening on heavy/MD trucks.
Ability to work independently and maintain quality workmanship.
Detail oriented and safety conscious.

Responsibilities

Position and secure damaged vehicle onto frame rack using clamps and chains.
Use measuring tools and blueprints to locate misaligned frame sections.
Apply hydraulic presses and frame racks to restore original shape.
Remove/replace damaged panels and structural parts with welding when needed.
Inspect post repair to meet safety and quality standards; perform road tests if required.
Document repairs and parts used; maintain clean, safe work environment.
Communicate with shop foreman about repair status; meet on-time goals.
Continuously learn new technical information and methods.

Job description

Job Details: Job Location: Columbus, Oh - West Jefferson, OH 43162, Fyda Freightliner Columbus is an Elite Support Certified dealer of new Freightliner, Western Star, Isuzu and Ottawa trucks, and carries a large inventory of all-makes of pre-owned trucks. Serving the Columbus transportation industry hub since 1985, we operate as a full-service commercial truck dealership and body shop collision center.

Technician Responsibilities

Positioning and securing the damaged vehicle onto the frame rack using specialized clamps and chains.
Using specialized equipment and blueprints to measure and pinpoint misaligned sections of the frame or unibody structure.
Employing hydraulic presses and frame racks to apply controlled forces and manipulate the frame back into its original shape and specifications.
Removing or replacing damaged body panels and structural parts, utilizing techniques like welding for repairs.
Working with various materials used in modern vehicle construction, including mild steels, high-strength steels, and aluminum, and applying appropriate joining technologies.
Performing thorough post-repair inspections to ensure the frame meets all safety and quality standards, including potential road tests.
Documenting repairs performed and parts used for each vehicle.
Completes service and repair assignments efficiently, safely, and correctly to pass quality inspections.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment while complying with company safety policies and procedures.
Communicate directly with shop foreman regarding the status of the repair work.
Continuously learn new technical information and techniques.
Performs quality repairs while keeping on-time status in mind.

Qualifications

Team oriented, flexible, and focused on maintaining a high level of customer service.
Working knowledge of shop equipment.
Past experience working with a frame rack to straighten frames
Basic Heavy and Medium Duty Truck knowledge is ideal but not necessary
Maintains sufficient personally owned tools.
Ability to work independently.
Detail oriented and quality driven.
Must be able to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug screening. (Fyda Freightliner follows the National DOT guidelines and tests for marijuana.)
