Job summary

Rare seeks a Fractional CIO to lead the modernization of its technology environment. You will own outcomes, manage implementation partners, and guide architecture, governance, and adoption across Salesforce, HRIS, and Microsoft 365 implementations.

The role is delivery-focused, with responsibility for selecting partners, defining ownership, and driving analytics and automation initiatives while aligning with Rare's mission and security posture.

Qualifications

• Over 10 years of senior technology leadership experience as CIO/CTO or equivalent.
• Experience leading enterprise systems modernization from strategy to benefits realization.
• Experience with Salesforce platforms and HRIS selection/implementation.
• Knowledge of Microsoft 365, SharePoint, data governance, cybersecurity, privacy, IAM, vendor management, and tech risk.
• Experience coordinating internal teams, consultants, and vendors across multiple initiatives.
• Experience in globally distributed or federated organizations; nonprofit/conservation familiarity helpful.

Responsibilities

• Deliver priority systems: lead Salesforce grants mgmt design, implementation, and phased rollout.
• Guide HRIS requirements, vendor selection, contracts, and rollout planning.
• Oversee implementation consultants to ensure value for money and quality.
• Provide light strategic guidance to Microsoft 365 migration and adoption.
• Establish governance, ownership, data stewardship, and accountability across org levels.
• Define platform connections and authoritative data sources; ensure security and continuity.
