Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced fund finance leader to head finance across the funds and management company on a part-time basis. You will be accountable for the funds' accounting and reporting, working closely with third-party administrators to direct, review and sign off on deliverables. You will also be the finance point of contact for senior management, auditors and investors. The role covers the quarterly and annual close, fund accounting and financial statement production, and internal controls.

This is a hands-on role at a small firm. You will work directly with senior management and with counterparties in the US and internationally.

Responsibilities
  • Review quarterly NAVs, financial statements and capital account statements prepared by the fund administrators.
  • Review and approve capital calls, distributions, management fees and carried interest calculations.
  • Oversee quarterly fair value measurement under US GAAP (ASC 820) and resolve financial reporting issues across the funds.
  • Manage annual fund and management company audits and serve as the primary contact for the firm's external auditors.
  • Own the relationship with the fund administrators and custodians, including recurring service reviews, fee oversight and escalation of issues.
  • Lead the treasury function across the funds and management company, including cash forecasting, FX and intercompany settlements.
  • Own banking relationships and KYC process, and maintain controls over payment approvals and cash movements.
  • Lead investor reporting, including fund performance metrics (gross and net IRR, DPI, TVPI and RVPI), respond to LP financial, annual confirmation and due diligence requests, and support capital raising.
  • Coordinate with tax and legal advisers on fund, portfolio and holding company tax matters, investor tax reporting to LPs (including timely delivery of Schedule K-1s), and management company and GP entity tax filings.
  • Manage local tax and foreign investment compliance in portfolio jurisdictions, working with local advisers on required filings.
  • Own management company finance, including the annual budget, forecasts and cash flow, management fee revenue and expenses, payroll and benefits coordination, and monthly accounts.
  • Manage the firm's insurance program and annual renewals, including D&O, E&O and cyber coverage, working with the firm's broker.
  • Prepare and present financial reporting to the Board, including periodic board materials and updates on fund and management company performance.
  • Maintain the books and records of the GP entities, including GP commitment funding and carried interest allocations to team members, with support from our third-party administrators.
  • Oversee administration of holding and SPV entities with local service providers, including statutory filings and annual compliance.
  • Review and approve regulatory filings, including Form PF and Form ADV, as well as local and state filings.
  • Improve finance and operational processes as the firm grows.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years in fund finance, including senior finance roles at private fund managers.
  • Hands-on experience with closed-end private funds: capital calls, distribution waterfalls, carried interest and fee calculations.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP investment company accounting and reporting, including fair value.
  • A track record of overseeing third-party administrators and running fund audits.
  • Experience with multi-jurisdiction fund structures, including offshore and emerging markets entities.
  • Working knowledge of SEC-registered investment adviser requirements.
  • Experience reading and interpreting fund documents and contracts, including LPAs and side letters.
  • Comfortable as the firm's senior finance lead, working independently and managing competing deadlines across funds and service providers.
