Job summary

Altera Corporation in San Jose, California is seeking a Transceivers & Protocol IP Application Engineer to help customers adopt Altera FPGA transceiver and protocol IP solutions across the full design cycle.

You will work with regional teams, perform hands-on FPGA design and debugging, provide technical guidance on PHYs and IP configuration, and contribute to product improvement and documentation. The role offers growth and travel opportunities in the Bay Area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• Experience with FPGA applications and high-speed digital design.
• Hands-on FPGA design flows and hardware debugging.
• Knowledge of high-speed serial interfaces and PHY concepts.
• HDL experience: Verilog, SystemVerilog or VHDL.
• Scripting or software development in Python, Tcl, Bash, C, or C++.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and writing skills.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on transceiver PHYs and IP configuration and system integration.
• Review customer architectures, constraints, RTL, and timing results; propose corrective actions.
• Reproduce and diagnose issues using Quartus Prime and lab/test equipment.
• Own technical cases from analysis to resolution with clear documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to escalate defects with reproduction data.
• Drive improvements to design examples, guides, and customer workflows.
• Deliver technical training, workshops, and design reviews.
