Job summary

Actalent in Mapleton, IL is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II to support and improve foundry manufacturing processes with hands-on casting operations and production equipment on the shop floor.

The role focuses on startup of equipment, daily DOE tasks, data analysis with Power BI, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure safe, efficient operations; requires a BS in engineering or related field, 2+ years in manufacturing engineering, and ability to lift up to 35 pounds.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an associate degree with ~4 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
• At least 2 years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in foundry/heavy industrial environments.
• Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude and comfort with production equipment and tools.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds as part of regular duties.
• Experience with manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
• Familiarity with foundry operations including casting and centrifugal casting.
• Experience with molten metal processes and related safety practices.
• Experience in equipment maintenance support, troubleshooting, and reliability improvements.
• Working knowledge of machining operations and their relation to upstream casting processes.
• Ability to use Power BI for data analysis and reporting.
• Ability to use Microsoft PowerApps to support data workflows.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and start up manufacturing equipment at the start of each day to ensure production readiness and safe operation.
• Document results from prior day experiments, tests, and process trials for ongoing analysis and improvement.
• Perform daily DOE tasks to optimize processes, improve quality, and enhance equipment performance.
• Provide thorough handoffs to trailing shift counterparts with status updates and actions.
• Discuss and review results with team to identify trends and corrective actions.
• Document process adjustments and changes for traceability.
• Communicate operational needs or roadblocks to leadership and teams.
• Participate in weekly update meetings to report progress and insights.
• Collaborate with maintenance to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform adjustments.
• Coordinate with vendors and technical teams to address equipment concerns and implement improvements.
• Apply strong mechanical aptitude to diagnose problems and modify as needed.
• Engage in hands-on work with casting, casting processes, and molten metal operations safely.
• Use Power BI to analyze data and support decision making.
