Job summary

American Bird Conservancy seeks a Founding Software Engineer to design and build a cloud-based biodiversity monitoring platform. You will work with scientists and conservationists to implement scalable backend services, data models, and AI-enabled analyses that support birds and habitats across the Americas.

The role offers a fully remote arrangement with travel as needed, a competitive salary around six figures, and an opportunity to shape a pioneering biodiversity intelligence system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience designing software architecture and cloud-based applications.
• Strong proficiency in Python or similar backend languages.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy, and improve production cloud-based biodiversity platform components.
• Build backend services, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and web apps for biodiversity data management.
• Develop cloud-native workflows for processing large acoustic monitoring datasets.
• Collaborate with scientists and practitioners to translate needs into software solutions.
• Establish engineering practices including CI/CD, testing, and documentation.
