American Bird Conservancy seeks a founding Software Engineer to design and build a cloud-based biodiversity platform, enabling conservation projects worldwide. The role combines system design, production code, and collaboration with scientists and practitioners, with travel as needed and full remote flexibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• At least three years designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining production software.
• Experience designing software architecture and building cloud-based applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy, and improve the first production version of a cloud-based biodiversity monitoring platform.
• Design scalable, secure, maintainable architecture for large acoustic datasets and analyses.
• Build backend services, APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
• Develop cloud-native workflows for ingesting and processing large datasets.
• Collaborate with scientists and practitioners to translate needs into software solutions.
• Establish and follow engineering practices including CI/CD and documentation.
