Job summary

American Bird Conservancy is hiring a Founding Software Engineer to design and build the first generation of a cloud-based biodiversity monitoring platform for the BirdsPlus Index. This full-time, remote position involves collaborating with scientists and practitioners to translate conservation needs into scalable software, architectures, and data models.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining production software applications.
• Experience designing software architecture and building cloud-based applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy, and improve the cloud-based biodiversity platform.
• Build backend services, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and web apps for biodiversity data management.
• Develop cloud-native workflows for ingesting and processing large acoustic datasets.
• Define data models for projects, users, deployments, recordings, and biodiversity measurements.
• Collaborate with scientists and conservation practitioners to translate needs into software solutions.
