Abacus is seeking a Founding Engineer to build a tax-automation platform as a generalist, primarily backend with some frontend work. This remote role targets 2-7 years of software experience in a fast-moving startup environment and expects strong Python expertise alongside TypeScript familiarity.

You will own backend architecture decisions, ship a major relaunch next year, and develop LLM/OCR pipelines to transform client input into product features.

Qualifications

• 2-7 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong Python skills; TypeScript is a strong plus.
• Experience shipping LLM or agent-based features to production.
• Experience owning backend architecture decisions.
• Experience at a venture-backed startup (Seed through Series B) is preferred.
• CS degree from a Top-50 US university with a strong GPA.

Responsabilités

• Build the core tax-automation platform as a generalist: backend-first, with some frontend.
• Help ship the next major version and relaunch planned for early next year.
• Make backend architecture decisions in collaboration with the CTO and Head of Engineering.
• Build LLM and OCR agent pipelines and convert firm feedback into product.
• Work on new tax and accounting workflow products, such as audit.
