Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer II to embed with a strategic enterprise customer, designing, building, deploying, and operating AI-powered production systems alongside the customer team.

FDE IIs own delivery end-to-end, mentor others, and drive measurable business outcomes while maintaining a Top Secret/SCI-related security posture. Occasional travel and close collaboration with AWS services are expected.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience in a highly agile environment.
• Experience with agentic and spec-driven development (developing AI agents a plus).
• Experience with AI tools: eval frameworks, agent tooling, RAG pipelines, and prompt engineering.
• US government security clearance of top secret or above.

Responsibilities

• Embed within customer engineering teams. Understand the customer's business processes, technical architecture, and constraints; translate requirements into designs for AI-enabled production systems. Requires 30–50% travel.
• Build production AI applications powering AI and agentic workflows; integrate foundation models, customer data sources, and existing apps; optimize latency, reliability, and cost.
• Own production for your workstream; cover SDLC from scoping to maintenance; troubleshoot incidents across AI models and services; implement monitoring and CI/CD.
• Mentor and uplift; train new team members and provide code review feedback.
• Accelerate customer adoption; codify reusable patterns and accelerators for future deployments and feed back into AWS services.
