Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer II to embed with a strategic enterprise customer and independently design, build, deploy, and run AI-powered production systems.

Responsibilities include designing cohesive AI experiences, integrating models and data sources, ensuring latency/reliability, and mentoring new engineers while traveling 30–50% to customer sites.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience in a highly agile environment.
• Experience with agentic and spec-driven development (developing AI agents a plus).
• Experience with AI tools: eval frameworks, agent tooling, RAG pipelines, and prompt engineering.
• U.S. government security clearance of top secret or above.

Responsibilities

• Embed within customer engineering teams and translate requirements into technical designs for AI-enabled production systems; travel 30–50%.
• Design and develop production-grade software powering AI and agentic workflows; integrate data sources and existing apps.
• Own production for the workstream; support design, code, testing, deployment, and maintenance; troubleshoot incidents.
• Mentor and uplift new team members; provide code-review feedback.
• Accelerate customer adoption by codifying reusable patterns and accelerators.
