Job summary

The Tulalip Tribes seeks a Forestry Technician I to perform routine plantation maintenance, including thinning to a preset spacing, and to support other forestry and natural/cultural resource projects. The role emphasizes maintaining healthy forests and timber stands, with hands-on field activities.

Candidate will contribute to data collection using standard forestry equipment and assist with related resource projects, under regular full-time employment. Starting wage is $20.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Three (3) months of forestry and/or natural resource related project experience preferred.
• Three (3) months of experience with chainsaws, weed eaters, brush mower, hydraulic wood splitter, wood chipper, and manual forestry tools preferred.
• Three (3) months of experience with map and compass orienteering preferred.
• Three (3) months of experience performing timber cruise plots and data collection preferred.
• Three (3) months of experience using forestry data collection equipment (e.g. Laser, Relaskop, Prism, Data logger, Diameter tape, increment borer, GPS units, etc.) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine plantation maintenance including pre-commercial thinning of young tree stands to a predetermined spacing.
• Work on other forestry and natural/cultural resource projects and any/all other duties deemed necessary to maintain healthy, viable forests and timber stands.

DEPARTMENT: Forestry (Natural Cultural Resources)
JOB SUMMARY: The Forestry Technician I will perform routine plantation maintenance to include pre-commercial thinning of young tree stands to a pre-determined spacing. Work on other forestry and natural/cultural resource projects and any/all other duties deemed necessary to maintain healthy, viable forests and timber stands.
COMPENSATION: $20.00 hr.
Minimum Required Education

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Minimum Related Experience

• Three (3) months of forestry and/or natural resource related project experience preferred.
• Three (3) months of experience with chainsaws, weed eaters, brush mower, hydraulic wood splitter, wood chipper, and manual forestry tools preferred.
• Three (3) months of experience with map and compass orienteering preferred.
• Three (3) months of experience performing timber cruise plots and data collection preferred.
• Three (3) months of experience using forestry data collection equipment (e.g. Laser, Relaskop, Prism, Data logger, Diameter tape, increment borer, GPS units, etc.) preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications/Prerequisites

• WA State Driver License. (Personal Auto Insurance)
• Must adhere to the Motor Vehicle Regulation (Abstract Required)
• CPR/First Aid certificate *Will allow six (6) months to obtain.
• Pesticide applicator license preferred.
• Must complete an Agility exam to determine if physically capable of performing job duties.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a regular full-time position.
