Job summary

The North Carolina Forest Service, part of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, seeks a Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician I (S) to maintain and repair heavy equipment across the forestry fleet.

You will troubleshoot diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes and undercarriage, using repair manuals and schematics. The job requires CDL eligibility (or obtaining one within 360 days), pre-employment drug testing, and willingness to travel for emergencies

Qualifications

• Knowledge of OSHA and safety regulations including shop and equipment safety.
• Experience using various mechanical, electrical and computer systems.
• Ability to do heavy lifting and pulling when required.
• Experience in repair and maintenance of automotive or heavy equipment, welding and fabrication.
• Basic computer skills (email, internet, databases).

Responsibilities

• Maintains and repairs heavy equipment and troubleshoots mechanical problems.
• Uses repair manuals and schematics to guide work.
• Provides irrigation equipment repair including electric, PTO and engine-driven pumps and welds/ fabricates as needed.
