Job summary

The City of Durham’s Fleet Management Department seeks skilled technicians to diagnose, repair, and maintain construction equipment, trucks, and fire apparatus. You will perform diesel and hydraulic repairs, weld components, and operate maintenance management systems.

Ideal candidates have an associate degree in auto mechanics/repair or a high school diploma with extensive experience, NC driver’s license, and ASE or EPA 609 certification eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in auto mechanics/repair or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 3+ years in automotive/heavy truck repair for degree holder; 7+ years for HS diploma holder.
  • Valid NC Class C Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain construction equipment, light- and heavy-duty trucks, police and fire apparatus.
  • Dismantle, overhauls engines, rebuild transmissions, drivetrains, pumps, gearboxes; repair hydraulic/electrical systems.
  • Perform diagnostics and preventive maintenance; operate maintenance management systems; respond to field/emergency calls.
