Job summary

State of Tennessee is seeking a Forestry Aide-level professional for fire prevention, suppression, and conservation work on state forests and private lands. The role involves operating heavy equipment, coordinating resources, and ensuring compliance with safety and forestry practices.

Qualifications

• Education equivalent to high school and one year of full-time work in areas such as fire suppression, conservation, forestry, land surveying, or heavy equipment operation.
• Experience substitutions for education may apply per agency guidance.

Responsibilities

• May lead wildland firefighting efforts and coordinate with external resources on suppression activities.
• Assesses environmental conditions (weather, topography, fuel type) and constructs a fire line using hand tools.
• Attends mandatory technical training and the TN/KY Wildland Fire Academy for certification.
• Gathers and reports information for fire reports and resource allocation.
• Operates hand-held equipment and heavy machinery as needed (bulldozers, tractors, etc.).
• Maintains facilities and equipment readiness for incident response.
• Educates cooperators and the public on fire behavior and safety; delivers training.
• Monitors seedling storage and participates in timber harvest site reviews for BMPs and contract compliance.
