Qualifications

• Education equal to graduation from a standard high school and at least 1 year of full-time work in fire suppression, conservation, farming, land surveying or related fields.
• May substitute college coursework in fire science, emergency management, homeland security, or natural resources for the required experience.
• Experience may substitute for education up to four years.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 years old.
• Must pass the Work Capacity Test for fire line activity and obtain a CDL within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead or assist wildland firefighting teams and coordinate safety communications.
• Assess environmental conditions and determine action to control fires; construct a fire line.
• Attend mandatory technical training and annual wildland fire academy.
• Collect and report information for fire reports and resource coordination.
• Operate heavy equipment and maintain vehicles and equipment.
