Job summary

North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, North Carolina Forest Service, seeks a Forestry Technician I (S) to assist landowner forestry services and education, working with a county ranger to deliver forestry programs across 100 counties.

The role involves field work, after-hours readiness during fire danger periods, and occasional overnight travel. Requires an associate degree or equivalent education/experience; must have NC driver's license within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of forest management, wildfire suppression or use of GPS/GIS software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to accomplish goals.
• Must be self-motivated, a team player, and able to remain calm under stress.

Responsibilities

• Assist with servicing landowner requests for forestry assistance.
• Assist with programs to promote forestry education and tree care.
• Promote forestry education through interactions with partners and schools.
• Promote protection of natural resources through wildfire planning.
• Respond during emergencies such as wildland fires and natural disasters.
