Job summary

New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department) seeks a Foodborne Disease Epidemiologist to support surveillance and outbreak detection for foodborne diseases, including E. coli and HUS, in NYC.

You will review investigations, analyze data, and coordinate with local, state, and federal partners. The role requires advanced degrees in public health or related fields and strong data management, SAS, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in public health or closely related field is required for Assignment Level I.
• Doctorate with specialization in a relevant field and supervisory or research experience is required for higher levels.
• Experience in surveillance, data collection, and data integrity is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage surveillance for Shiga toxin-producing E. coli and HUS.
• Review case investigation forms, clean data, and assist data collection.
• Maintain protocols and update disease definitions and trends.
• Analyze surveillance, cluster, and outbreak data and prepare reports.
• Perform analytic projects and respond to data requests as needed.
• Respond to clusters/outbreaks and liaise with city, state, and federal partners.
• Participate in Citywide incident response as part of the ICS.
