Job summary

The City of New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks a City Research Scientist to advance surveillance for zoonotic and vector-borne diseases. You will design case investigations, oversee data management, and collaborate with environmental health, labs, and local partners to respond to public health threats.

You will supervise interns, contribute to community outreach, and engage in emergency responses within the Incident Command System.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in physical, biological or environmental sciences or public health.
• Doctorate with supervisory/leadership experience preferred for higher levels.
• Two years of supervisory or research capacity experience may substitute for some requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance disease surveillance practices and case investigation protocols.
• Conduct case investigations for emerging zoonotic and vector-borne diseases in humans and animals.
• Oversee data collection, management, and analysis for surveillance and research.
• Manage ZVDU data in Maven and coordinate with Maven staff for updates.
• Lead analytic projects and respond to data requests as needed.
• Collaborate with Environmental Health and Public Health Laboratory partners.
