Summary

The Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is recruiting for a Food Service Worker Supervisor. The Food Service Worker Supervisor will work within Nutrition and Food Services. The primary responsibilities include procuring essential items, managing budgets, and ensuring contract compliance. Additional duties involve inventory control, enforcing HACCP guidelines, supervising staff, and maintaining government vehicles.

Duties

  • Responsible for sanitation across food production and service areas.
  • Conducts daily team huddles and schedules assignments.
  • Requisitions supplies needed for food service areas.
  • Tracks and reports budget transactions.
  • Supervises food service activities to ensure proper work methods.
  • Reviews fund requests for completeness and adequacy.
  • Communicates procedures and ensures compliance.
  • Oversees employee performance, provides guidance, and discusses issues.
  • Instructs staff on sanitation and cleaning procedures.
  • Performs responsibilities according to policies and procedures.
  • Adjusts work plans and methods to control costs.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Recommends purchases of small equipment and supplies.
  • Provides training on food service equipment care and maintenance.
  • Tracks expenditures and compares with budgets and inventories.
  • Knowledge of dietary modifications for special diets.
  • Estimates food and beverage needs.
  • Uses accounting and filing systems to resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensures availability of food supplies for meal service.
  • Adheres to safety policies during manual tasks.
  • Validates transactions and researches data for discrepancies.
  • Conducts quality assurance and sanitation reviews.
  • Recognizes health and safety hazards.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0600 to 1430

Position Description Title/PD#: Food Service Supervisor/PD931190

Physical Requirements: Ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds frequently. Occasionally lift over 40 pounds with assistance. Must maintain concentration and alertness. Work involves temperature extremes, noise, and exposure to steam, heat, and odors.

Work Environment: Food service areas can be hot, noisy, and uncomfortable, with exposure to heat, steam, and cleaning chemicals. Safety precautions are necessary to prevent injuries.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Background/suitability investigation.
  • Probationary period may apply.
  • Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate experience or training sufficient to perform the duties. Evidence must be detailed in your resume. Rating based on OPM standards. Experience includes paid, unpaid, volunteer, or military service. Full-time experience is considered 35-40 hours/week. Part-time experience is credited proportionally.
