Job summary

Holy Family Institute is seeking a Food Service Director in Emsworth to oversee the Food Service Management Company and ensure PEARS compliance for the National School Lunch Program.

The role requires managing contracts, budgets, audits, and staff training across multiple locations to promote high-quality meals and student satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; concentration in management, hospitality, business or food/nutrition preferred.
  • Four years’ experience managing food service in a school environment.
  • Act 33/34 and FBI clearances and valid PA driver’s license are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments within instructions and routines.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with strong customer service.
  • Up-to-date Safe Serve Certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee FSMC operations, ensuring contract compliance and high-quality service.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local school nutrition program requirements.
  • Manage program applications, certifications, claims, and reporting through PEARS and required systems.
  • Maintain accurate student eligibility and meal program records.
  • Review and approve invoices, monitor budgets, and prepare annual financial reports.
  • Conduct site visits and audits for food safety and service quality.
  • Coordinate staff training and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Manage FSMC contract renewals, procurement activities, and bid processes.
  • Promote student engagement and satisfaction through feedback and improvement.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to support nutrition programs across locations.

Holy Family Institute (HFI) is a 125-year-old Catholic organization with an impeccable history of serving children and families in the Pittsburgh Region. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Food Service Director is responsible for oversight of the Food Service Management Company (FSMC) and compliance with the PA Dept of Education National School Lunch Program as indicated through compliance in PA Electronic Application and Reimbursement System (PEARS).

  • Collaborate with school leadership, staff, and service providers to support successful nutrition programs across multiple locations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in management, hospitality, business or food/nutrition preferred.
  • Four years’ experience managing food service in a school environment
  • Must have Act 33/34 and FBI clearances and valid PA driver’s license
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with team and customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and exemplary customer service.
  • Must maintain up-to-date Safe Serve Certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
