Job summary

Safeway in Tucson seeks a Food Safety Manager Assistant to help oversee all food safety and sanitation activities across the division, ensuring compliance with laws and company policies. The role includes coordinating audits, training staff, and supporting regulatory interactions.

Travel to other stores is frequent, and the position may involve some evenings and weekends in a fast-paced environment. A degree in environmental health or related science is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or equivalent with focus on environmental health, food science or related field.
• Experience in food handling, sanitation or public health is preferred.
• Grocery retail familiarity is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Food Safety Manager in administering food safety and sanitation activities to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.
• Review food safety audit results with store personnel and help correct deficiencies.
• Communicate inspection results to Legal Department or division management for follow-up.
• Provide emergency food safety training and support during potential food loss, regulatory visits or emergencies.
• Monitor stores to comply with local, state, and federal standards including hygiene, temperature control, cross-contamination, pest control and chemical use training.
