Job summary

Dennis Group in Carlsbad, CA is seeking a Process Engineer to design and build food and beverage processing facilities, spanning controls, packaging, mechanical, electrical, and building systems from concept to start-up.

You will develop process diagrams, mass and energy balances, and coordinate with disciplines, estimate costs, and support on-site commissioning, traveling up to 50% of the year.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Familiarity with process flow diagrams and P&IDs is a plus.
• Interest in food safety and sanitary design principles.
• Experience with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
• Past process experience in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, or related sanitary environments is a plus.
• Travel availability for on-site construction coordination and management (30–50%).
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Responsibilities

• Develop process design basis and select unit operations.
• Prepare process flow diagrams and P&IDs.
• Coordinate with other project disciplines (engineers, designers, architects).
• Prepare process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
• Create process flow diagrams.
• Prepare mass and energy balances.
• Size and specify process and process utility equipment.
• Equipment procurement and bid evaluation.
• Assist project management with scope, budget, and schedule for process work.
• Coordinate schedules and work of contractors for equipment installation.
• Develop cost estimates and proposals with clients, vendors, and suppliers.
• Provide client assumptions on supply recommendations.
• Develop process and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs).
• Oversee equipment installations and start-up support.
• Research process engineering best practices.
• Support talent growth within the organization.
