Job summary

Rocket Lab Corporation seeks a Fluid Component Engineer II to own designs from concept to flight, sizing components with first-principles models and CAD drawings. You’ll lead design reviews, coordinate internal and vendor schedules, and prototype parts for testing and qualification on the Neutron program.

Responsibilities include root cause analysis, design fixes for reliability, and updates to reduce mass and cost while increasing build rate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering.
  • 2+ years in mechanical design and CAD, FEA, GD&T, and 2D drawings.
  • Strong first-principles approach to design and requirements.
  • Knowledge of metal and polymer properties, fabrication, assembly and testing.
  • Solid fundamentals in structural analysis, fluids and thermodynamics.
  • Hands-on prototyping, assembly and pressure testing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own fluid component designs from concept through launch.
  • Create analytical models to size new components and predict behavior.
  • Define components via CAD drawings, test procedures and docs.
  • Lead design, manufacturing and test reviews with teams.
  • Manage vendor and internal schedules during design sprints.
  • Build and test prototype components with machinists and engineers.
  • Lead test campaigns to qualify components for flight.
  • Investigate root causes and implement reliability fixes.
  • Update designs to address failure modes, reducing cost/mass.
  • Review engine/vehicle test data to validate performance.
