East Carolina University (ECU) is seeking a Building Environmental Services Tech – Journey to perform floor cleaning and restoration throughout assigned facilities. The role includes stripping, refinishing floors, cleaning hard surfaces, and carpet upkeep, in collaboration with a maintenance team.

The position requires demonstrated competency to perform the work, with preference for a valid NC Driver’s License. Work is Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with potential variations across campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Perform floor cleaning and restoration services, including stripping and refinishing floors.
  • Clean, scrub, and maintain a variety of hard floor surfaces using orbital scrubbers and floor care equipment.
  • Perform carpet maintenance such as bonnet cleaning and extraction; coordinate with team to complete tasks.

Campus Operations is a major unit in the Administration and Finance Division of ECU with approximately 500 employees and annual budget in excess of $30 million. The Campus Operations organization includes Facilities Engineering & Architectural Services, Facilities Services, and Housekeeping Services. Campus Operations is responsible for the support of all University real property including buildings, infrastructure, and grounds. Responsibilities on the University’s Main, Health Sciences, West Research Campuses, and satellite locations associated with ECU programs include major and minor renovations and construction; corrective and preventive maintenance and repairs by utilities services (controls, electrical, HVAC , life safety, plumbing, central steam and chilled water operations), building services (carpentry, locksmith, masonry, paint, roofing), automotive services; maintenance of grounds by grounds services, recycling, refuse removal, sustainability; moving services and housekeeping services support of academic, administrative, athletic, classroom, clinical, dining, laboratory, library, performing arts, and residence life spaces.

Primary Purpose of Position

The position performs floor cleaning and restoration services throughout the assigned facilities. Duties include stripping and refinishing floors; cleaning, scrubbing, and maintaining a variety of hard floor surfaces; and operating orbital scrubbers and other floor care equipment to complete scheduled and restorative maintenance. The position also performs carpet maintenance, including bonnet cleaning and extraction, and utilizes a variety of floor cleaning machines to support facility cleanliness and appearance. The position works collaboratively with team members and supervisors to coordinate work, complete assigned tasks, and ensure floor care services are performed in accordance with departmental standards.
