Job summary

Maricopa County's Flood Control District seeks a Floodplain Permit Plans Examiner to review residential, commercial, and other construction plans for compliance with floodplain regulations. You will provide customer service and manage core permitting processes.

You will work with engineers and technicians in a team, with options for part-week telework, a 9/80 flex schedule, or flexible core hours. A high school diploma and related experience are required.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience reviewing construction plans for compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
• High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education may substitute for experience.
• Post-secondary education in Engineering, Urban Planning, Urban Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration or related fields is valued.
• Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is a plus; GIS or mapping experience is helpful.
• Knowledge of construction plans, land development, or planning is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Review residential and commercial building civil/site plans for compliance with floodplain regulations and statutes.
• Review aerial and floodplain maps to determine additional review requirements for permits.
• Prepare comments and documents for flood use permits and development compliance.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and communicate requirements to the public and engineers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
