Job summary

Housing Works, Inc. is seeking a Thrift Shop Assistant Manager to oversee operations across multiple NYC-area stores. You will partner with the Store Manager to train staff, drive sales, and ensure exceptional customer service while living the mission of Housing Works.

The role emphasizes community engagement, staff development, and revenue growth, requiring an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to manage inventory, merchandising, and daily tasks across locations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years retail management experience or equivalent.
• Knowledge of second-hand market and Housing Works product range.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
• Interpersonal and team-oriented mindset.
• Self-starting and solutions-oriented attitude.
• Commitment to excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Plan and set strategic and operational objectives for self and team to ensure efficient work.
• Adjust plans as needed and celebrate team success.
• Set store goals, manage execution, and track metrics (sales, traffic, conversion).
• Ensure compliance with Housing Works policies and timely completion of tasks.
• Utilize Housing Works tools to maintain store standards and operations.
• Manage staff scheduling and daily tasks to optimize focus and performance.
• Train and develop staff and volunteers on standards, merchandizing, and store maintenance.
• Recruit, interview, hire, and train sales associates.
• Provide coaching and performance feedback to team members.
• Continuously review store environment to improve operations and merchandising.
• Act as Housing Works ambassador through community outreach and events.
