Job summary

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District, seeks a Marine Machinery Helper to support the maintenance and operation of engine machinery aboard floating plant.

You will assist skilled technicians, perform repairs, operate portable tools, and help ensure equipment reliability while complying with safety rules. The role includes on-site work, potential TDY of up to 10%, and mandatory pre-employment drug testing as part of federal requirements.

Qualifications

• US Citizens eligible for federal employment.
• Must pass pre-employment drug test and background checks.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to lift 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist in keeping engine machinery in proper operation condition.
• Service and adjust gasoline or diesel engines, electric motors, generators, pumps, hydraulic systems, water jet propulsion, air compressors, HVAC and other machinery aboard floating plant at Norfolk District.
• Assist higher grade mechanics and the Engineering Technician (Naval Architecture) in assessing the status of operational equipment.
• Operate auxiliary equipment such as pumps, generators, air compressors and other machinery powered by electric motors or small engines.
• Assist on repairs by disassembling machinery, replacing worn parts, cleaning parts, and assisting in emergency repairs.
• Operate portable electric and pneumatic tools and measuring devices; keep yard and floating plant neat and orderly.
