Job summary

Empirical Systems Aerospace, Inc is seeking a Flight Test Engineer to join our on-site San Luis Obispo team. You will support multi-disciplinary product development, conduct ground and flight testing, and develop test strategies and procedures for new and existing products.

Responsibilities include documenting tests, training staff, and collaborating with design, manufacturing, and field personnel to improve coverage and reduce costs. US citizenship is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• 2–5 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience in testing environments.
• Experience with power distribution systems theory, design, test, or analysis.
• Experience with electric motor and controller/inverter theory, design, test, or analysis.
• Able to work with high voltage (>500V).
• Understanding of structures, mechanisms, system layout, materials, and processes.
• Experience with data collection and reduction software (LabView, MATLAB).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM (or similar).
• US Citizenship Required.

Responsibilities

• Provide testing and flight-testing support for company projects.
• Develop and maintain high-quality testing documentation.
• Represent testing interests when collaborating with project teams.
• Develop engineering test strategies and test procedures for new and existing products.
• Test prototype units and ensure proper execution and documentation.
• Create test procedures addressing field-observed issues.
• Resolve production test issues as an engineering interface.
• Train personnel in proper testing techniques.
• Identify improvements to reduce costs or improve test coverage.
• Support system requirements, trade studies, and flight test plans.
• Coordinate with suppliers and integrated product teams.
• Provide manufacturing and ground/flight test support.
• Investigate root causes of failures and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop engineering drawings, schematics, and design specifications.
• Ensure circuit protection, isolation, redundancy, and fault tolerance.
