Job summary

Apex Space, Inc. is seeking an Operating Systems Engineer for the Flight Software team in Los Angeles. You will design, develop, and own software that brings our spacecraft to life, working with mission ops, GNC, and hardware teams to create mission-critical systems that fly.

Ideal candidates solve complex problems with rigor and practicality in a fast-paced space startup. Experience in space is not required, and the team collaborates across high-level application, OS, and embedded software

Qualifications

• 2+ years writing code for operating systems, ideally Yocto or embedded Linux.
• Strong proficiency in Python, C++, or Rust.
• U.S. Person status is required to access export controlled data.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, EE or equivalent, or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and own mission-critical software for satellite systems throughout the full software lifecycle.
• Develop, configure, and maintain embedded Linux platforms and bootloader frameworks (Yocto, Buildroot, WolfBoot, U-Boot).
• Design, implement, and validate firmware update mechanisms and secure deployment.
• Enhance security across complex software architectures for robust operation.
