Job summary

St. John’s Ministries is seeking a Security Staff member to help provide a safe, comfortable environment for shelter guests, staff, and volunteers at our Green Bay locations. You will screen guests, monitor behavior, deescalate threats, and engage with guests to support their well-being.

The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and calm handling of challenges in a shelter environment with flexible tasks and duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and co-occurring mental health and/or substance use disorders.
• A strong desire to serve others in the community.
• A positive attitude.
• A calm demeanor when dealing with challenges.
• Reliable and punctual for scheduled shifts.
• Ability to work well as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

• Performs screening of guests and their belongings as they present to shelter.
• Screening guests for their ability to provide self-care.
• Performing routine screens of the shelter and shelter grounds.
• Monitoring guest behavior, recognizing and deescalating potentially threatening situations.
• Communicating guest issues to the Shift Lead.
• Build rapport with shelter guests and engage in conversation with guests on a regular basis.
• Completing other tasks as needed.
