Job summary

Iroquois Job Corps is seeking an On-Call Cook Assistant to provide nutritious meals to students in a high-volume kitchen. You will assist in daily meal prep, support serving lines, and help maintain cleanliness and safety in a fast-paced environment.

This on-call role offers flexible scheduling based on operational needs and opportunities to gain practical culinary experience while contributing to student well-being and nutrition.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience in a cafeteria, restaurant, commercial kitchen, healthcare food service, school cafeteria, or related food service environment preferred.
• Knowledge of food preparation techniques and commercial kitchen operations.
• Understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and service of daily meals.
• Ensure serving lines are properly prepared before each meal service.
• Assist in preparing wholesome, nutritious, and appealing meals.
• Monitor food temperatures to ensure food safety compliance.
• Maintain proper food handling and sanitation standards.
• Assist with inventory management and notify supervisors when supplies need replenishing.
• Help prepare weekly and monthly food service reports.
• Maintain daily records of food costs and food usage.
• Assist with kitchen organization, cleanliness, and equipment maintenance.
• Work collaboratively with the Food Services team to provide excellent service to students and staff.
• Follow all health department, sanitation, and food safety regulations.
