Job summary

OmniSource, a subsidiary of Steel Dynamics, Inc., seeks a Transportation Manager – GLD MI to oversee transportation operations across Michigan locations. You will lead a team of drivers, dispatchers, and maintenance staff, ensure DOT compliance, optimize fleet utilization, and coordinate with internal teams to guarantee timely order fulfillment.

Responsibilities include budgeting, safety, customer service, and negotiating freight rates with carriers.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience operating a medium-sized fleet or common carrier fleet.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Strong working knowledge of federal and state DOT laws and regulations.
• Proven knowledge of transportation equipment operation and routing.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve issues in the safest and most effective manner.
• Intermediate-level experience with Microsoft Office products.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to stay organized and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coach transportation team members across Great Lakes Division Michigan locations.
• Oversee preventive maintenance and repair of transportation equipment within budget.
• Operate fleet in compliance with federal and state DOT regulations and company safety rules.
• Provide customer service and dispatch support for timely orders.
• Coordinate with Marketing and Operations and other internal departments.
• Negotiate third-party freight rates.
• Monitor fleet utilization, driver performance and efficiency.
• Verify payroll for accuracy.
• Lead additional projects as assigned.
