Job summary

First Student, Inc. is hiring a Fleet Technician to maintain our paratransit fleet. This hands-on role involves preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs to buses and vans, ensuring safety and reliability for community transportation.

You will work under experienced leadership, develop technical skills, and contribute to a large transportation fleet while adhering to DOT and company safety standards.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of automotive, diesel, fleet, or related mechanical experience.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid driver's license.
• Class B CDL with passenger endorsement preferred; ability to obtain required licensing within approximately 3 months of hire.
• Ability and willingness to participate in ASE certification program.
• Expected to begin ASE participation within the first year and obtain at least one ASE certification within 24 months.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to safely use standard hand and shop tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance and safety inspections on buses, vans, and other fleet vehicles
• Complete basic mechanical repairs and replace worn or damaged components
• Inspect brakes, tires, fluids, electrical systems, and other vehicle systems
• Diagnose basic mechanical issues and communicate additional repair needs
• Complete work orders and maintain accurate maintenance records
• Assist with road calls and vehicle breakdowns when needed
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and work area
• Follow First Student, DOT, and all applicable safety and maintenance requirements
