Description

The City of Wentzville is seeking a dedicated and skilled Fleet Technician to ensure the safe operation and longevity of our City vehicles and equipment. This crucial role involves preventative maintenance, complex repairs, fabrication, and winter storm response.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide respectful, professional, and positive service in all interactions with co-workers, internal/external customers, community members, and the public.
  • Maintain a positive and productive work environment, ensuring compliance with City, Department, and Division policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, including checking for defective equipment, changing fluids, checking tires, and inspecting all safety-related equipment.
  • Conduct specialized repairs on vehicles and equipment, such as engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, wiring, electric motors, snowplows, salt spreaders, and hydraulic systems.
  • Utilize welding and fabricating skills to repair and fabricate parts, frames, floors, hitches, molding, racks, toolboxes, and other equipment accessories.
  • Maintain and record an inventory of tools and parts.
  • Perform bodywork and painting to refinish vehicles and equipment after damage.
  • Track and record work performed, including vehicle mileage reports, explanations of repairs, and cost estimates.
  • Respond to winter storm operations on a 24-hour call basis as required, including repairing vehicles and equipment, plowing snow, and spreading salt to clear streets.
  • Perform all job duties safely and in compliance with safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the operation of fleet equipment and machinery required.
  • Job-relevant certification/license, vocational/technical program completion, or completion of apprenticeship preferred.
  • Class A CDL preferred, or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment required.
  • Valid driver’s license required upon hire.
  • EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) Certification required within 180 days of employment.
  • ASE Automobile A-Series Certifications required upon hire:
    • A-1 Engine Repair
    • A-4 Suspension & Steering
    • A-5 Brakes
    • A-6 Electrical Systems
    • A-7 Heating & Air Conditioning
    • A-8 Engine Performance

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.

  • Knowledge and experience in using HVLP spray guns, body repair tools, paint mixing equipment, and safety gear.
  • Proficiency in use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) and basic office equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and track maintenance and inspection plans.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain concentrated focus.
  • Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing, and in person.
  • Ability to use good judgment and think rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
  • Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
