Diesel Technician/Mechanic III - Entry Level

Position Summary

The focus of this position is to clean and recondition Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF), manage shipping and receiving, and oversee inventory at Penske service locations. The role involves examining DPFs to determine reconditioning potential and restoring them to at least 80% of their original capacity.

Major Responsibilities

• Examine and test DPFs for restriction and cell integrity using bore scope and trap tester machine. Decide if cores can be cleaned and reused or should be disposed of, based on filter type standards.
• Clean cores using appropriate patterns and nozzles in the trap blaster cabinet.
• Retest cleaned units; if they fail, bake in kiln, clean again, and retest.
• Record data on DPF condition, measurements, and pass/fail status; report failed units for warranty recovery.
• Manage shipping and receiving of DPFs.
• Suggest improvements for cleaning processes and throughput; maintain equipment.
• Assist in managing inventory levels, ensuring adequate stock of cleaned DPFs based on consumption.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of automotive or diesel experience preferred.
• Vocational or technical certification preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with mechanical work in trucking industry is a plus.
• Knowledge of hand tools required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Basic computer skills for data entry preferred.
• Ability to operate machinery and equipment properly and efficiently.
• Reliable attendance is essential.
• Willingness to travel, work scheduled hours, and complete employment verification processes.
