Job summary

City of Dothan is seeking a Fleet Technician I to perform mechanical repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment. The role includes engine, electrical, brake, HVAC, and other system repairs, plus preventative maintenance and diagnostic tasks.

Training and opportunities for advancement to Fleet Technician II after three years, with ASE certifications in Cars & Light Trucks or Medium Heavy Trucks. The position requires the ability to work a Monday–Friday schedule, 7 AM–3 PM or 3 PM–11

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and two years recent experience as a mechanic (maintenance/repair of automotive vehicles – light to medium; gas and diesel powered).
• Knowledge of repair methods, tools and equipment for a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
• Familiar with department and city policies, safety practices, and diagnostic software.

Responsibilities

• Perform engine, exhaust, electrical, brake, hydraulic, HVAC, transmission, and other system repairs on city vehicles and equipment.
• Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections (batteries, fluids, tires, lights, transmissions, exhaust, brakes).
• Carry out engine diagnostic procedures and emergency roadside repairs as needed; operate a wrecker for vehicle transport.
• Complete required paperwork related to work orders and maintain shop tools and equipment.
• Deliver vehicles to dealers for repairs and maintain shop cleanliness and organization.
• Install specialized equipment on vehicles and equipment and perform related duties.
