Job summary

The City of Hoover is seeking a Fleet Technician to diagnose, repair and perform preventative maintenance on City vehicles, including heavy equipment, diesel and gasoline engines.

Qualifications include five years of related experience or two years of automotive schooling plus three years, a high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license with City permit, and the ability to obtain Alabama Class A CDL and work overtime/on-call as needed.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years or more of experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, automobiles and trucks.
• Or two (2) years of automotive school training and three (3) years or more of experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, automobiles and trucks.
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, automobiles to include diesel and gasoline engines.
• Valid Driver's License and the ability to obtain/maintain City of Hoover's Driver's Permit.
• Ability to obtain/maintain Alabama Class A CDL (CDL).

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on City of Hoover vehicles including heavy equipment and diesel/gas engines.
• Repair vehicles such as rescue units, police sedans, fire trucks and other city equipment.
• Repair hydraulic systems, check line pressure and flow, diagnose engine problems.
• Maintain records and purchase parts needed for Fleet Services.
• Change tires on city vehicles and equipment; support fleet operations.
