Job summary

American Electric Power seeks a Fleet Technician to maintain and repair sedans, trucks, trailers and heavy equipment used in company operations. You will diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and braking systems, service HVAC, hydraulic pumps, and steering assemblies, and ensure safe operation of vehicles.

The role requires at least 2 years of automotive repair experience and a valid driver’s license; a Class A CDL must be obtained within 12 months.

Qualifications

2+ years of automotive mechanical diagnosis experience with hydraulic and diesel repair.
High school diploma or GED required; automotive trade school preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license; CDL Class A within 12 months of entry date.

Responsibilities

Service and repair boom/pedestal assemblies and related equipment.
Service and repair hydraulic systems including pumps, motors, valves and cylinders.
Service and repair heating and ventilation systems; diagnose and fix A/C unit problems.
Troubleshoot and repair winch assemblies.
Service and repair steering systems and power steering components.
Service and repair air brake systems including compressors, chambers, valves.
Inspect and repair differentials, transmissions, clutches and transfer cases.
Inspect and service fuel and exhaust systems including diesel fuel pumps and governors.
Assist others in diagnosing more complex problems.
Operate company vehicles and related equipment; maintain a clean, organized work area.
Maintain records and submit reports as required.
