Job summary

City of El Paso is seeking a fleet mechanic to perform repair and maintenance on a variety of municipal vehicles including trucks, cars and buses. You will diagnose and overhaul engines, replace parts, and ensure repairs meet standards while updating logs and communicating with officials.

The role may involve airport-related work and requires a valid Texas CDL (some positions) and ASE within six months. Experience at journey level automotive or diesel is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years of journey level automotive/diesel experience.
• Some positions require ASE certification within six months of appointment.
• CDL may be required for some positions; EPA refrigerant certification may be required.
• Drug and alcohol testing may apply for CDL or safety sensitive roles.
• Criminal background check and security clearance may be needed for airport work.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, perform fleet repair and maintenance on City vehicles.
• Diagnose, overhaul, repair, and maintain trucks, cars, buses and equipment.
• Identify parts, perform tests, and ensure compliance with repair standards.
• Update records, interact with officials and the public to provide information.
• Assist coworkers during absences to maintain operations; keep work area clean.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

ASE Certification (within 6 months)

Texas Class C Driver's License

CDL Class B (may be required)

EPA certification (refrigerant)

Criminal background check for airport work
