Job summary

City of Columbia, SC is seeking an Inventory Clerk for the Fleet Services Division to assist in procuring, stocking, and maintaining inventory of parts, materials, and supplies, while performing routine clerical and bookkeeping tasks in a busy shop environment.

The role requires following established procedures, interacting with vendors, processing invoices, and maintaining accurate records. The position involves physical activity and safety awareness in a facilities environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two (2) years of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.
• ASE parts specialist.
• Forklift certification.

Responsibilities

• Assists in maintaining accurate and up-to-date inventory records of all Fleet Services Division parts, materials, tools and supplies in stock.
• Procures parts necessary for maintenance and repair work.
• Communicates with vendors to obtain price quotes, to determine parts availability, to coordinate and expedite orders, and to resolve billing / shipping discrepancies.
• Receives goods; reconciles invoices with purchase orders; processes invoices for payment.
• Organizes, labels and stocks parts and supplies.
• Issues parts and supplies to personnel as needed.
• Assists in quarterly inventory of all materials in parts room.
• Maintains a clean parts room.
• Attends training, workshops, meetings, etc., as appropriate to maintain or enhance job knowledge and skills.
• Performs routine clerical work as required, including preparing reports and records, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, processing mail, sending and retrieving faxes, etc.; and
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
