Job summary

JB Hunt in Joliet, IL is seeking a Manager Trainee starting January 2027 to learn the management of a small driver count, including nights and weekends, and to ensure safe and timely freight movement while delivering best-in-class customer service.

Under supervision, you will train to ensure DOT compliance, support payroll and budgeting tasks, and work with drivers, customers, and internal teams to optimize routing, load planning, and performance metrics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 1 year of management/transportation experience with related field equivalent.
• Willing to travel to account locations and work across multiple shifts including nights/weekends.
• Willingness to relocate regionally depending on account assignment.
• Experience in leadership or supervising roles is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Learn to build and maintain relationships with drivers and carriers to enable smooth carrier setup and productivity.
• Fill in for absent personnel and assist with special projects to optimize fleet operations and profitability.
• Learn payroll, Net-Revenue budgeting, driver coaching, and generating operational/financial reports.
• Assist with yard management, equipment checks, maintenance coordination, and safety compliance.
• Plan loads, route freight, monitor movements, and adjust driver ETAs to meet schedules and customer requirements.
