Job summary

Dean Transportation in Muskegon, MI, is seeking a School Bus Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair vehicles for the district. You will diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines, braking and suspension systems, and other fleet components, ensuring buses stay road-ready for student transport.

The role requires 3–5 years of vehicle maintenance experience, a technical school background, and the ability to obtain state or ASE licenses.

Qualifications

3–5 years of vehicle maintenance experience or equivalent.
Technical School degree in diesel/automotive preferred but not required.
Must hold or be able to obtain ASE/Michigan mechanic licenses in Heavy Duty Brakes, Suspension & Steering, Diesel Engines, Drive Train, Electrical.

Responsibilities

Performs repairs per OEM recommendations and state/federal regulations.
Inspects equipment for defects, determines root causes and completes repairs.
Responds to service calls and conducts on-site repairs when possible.
May install two-way radios, cameras and GPS systems.
Reviews technical service bulletins and uses diagnostic diagrams.
Parts procurement and inventory control.
Communicates with drivers and operations staff regarding maintenance difficulties.
Performs safety inspections and assists with annual Michigan State Police inspections.
Maintains housekeeping of maintenance facility.
