Job summary

Dean Transportation in Michigan is seeking a School Bus Fleet Mechanic to support Calhoun ISD, Mar Lee School District, and Olivet Community School. You will maintain buses and fleet vehicles to keep students safe and on the road.

The role involves diagnosing and repairing diesel and gasoline engines, brakes, suspensions, electrical systems and other fleet components. ASE licenses and a technical school background are preferred; valid Michigan CDL with School Bus/Passenger endorsements may be

Qualifications

Diesel bus/truck or automotive maintenance experience required.
Technical School degree in diesel/automotive preferred but not required.
Must hold or be able to obtain current ASE licenses (Heavy Duty Brakes, Heavy Duty Suspension & Steering, Heavy Duty Diesel Engines, Heavy Duty Drive Train, Electrical).
May require certification in Computer Electronic Engine and Transmission Diagnostics.

Responsibilities

Performs repairs per OEM and regulatory guidelines; diagnose defects and perform corrective repairs.
Respond to service calls and breakdowns; conduct on-site repairs when possible.
May install accessories such as two-way radios, cameras and GPS systems.
Review service bulletins and electrical diagrams; use diagnostic software for diesel/gas engines and braking systems.
Parts procurement and inventory control.
Communicate maintenance needs with bus drivers and operations staff.
Perform safety inspections and assist with Michigan State Police inspections.
Housekeeping of maintenance facilities (cleaning and organizing work areas).
Perform other duties as assigned.
