Job summary

The City of Magnolia is seeking a Mechanic for the Public Works - Fleet to manage and maintain the city’s vehicle and equipment fleet. You will oversee preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, compliance, and fleet records, ensuring safe, dependable operations for daily and emergency use.

Qualified candidates have an apprenticeship or trade certificate in automotive mechanics, workshop experience, and a valid Texas driver’s license. The role emphasizes cost-effective, reliable fleet support.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship, trade certificate, or vocational qualification in light vehicle and automotive mechanics.
• Previous experience in a workshop or dealership environment.
• High school graduate or its equivalent.
• Background checks, credit checks, and drug screening.
• Texas Class C or higher driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Manage the fleet's maintenance, safety, reliability, and cost-effective operation.
• Oversee preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, regulatory compliance, and records.
• Coordinate with vendors, manage inventory, and replacement planning.
• Support departments using vehicles and equipment, and respond to emergencies.
