Since 2011, from our headquarters in Norwalk, we’ve been leading the charge in overhead and underground electrical systems, including expert vault installations, conduit placement, and high-voltage power line construction.

But we don’t stop there. Our team also brings cutting-edge planning, design, and traffic control services to the table making even the most complex utility projects run smoothly. Driven by an unwavering commitment to safety, quality, and high performance, HW Power is the trusted partner for public and private sector clients who demand reliable, future-ready energy solutions.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Fleet Manager to oversee the vehicles and specialized equipment supporting our underground civil and electric utility construction operations.

This position is responsible for fleet safety, availability, maintenance, compliance, utilization, and cost control. The Fleet Manager will work closely with operations, safety, accounting, purchasing, and field leadership to ensure equipment is properly assigned, maintained, inspected, documented, and ready to support daily production.

Our fleet includes service and foreman trucks, pickups, dump trucks, trailers, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, vacuum excavators, bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other utility-construction equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the daily operation, maintenance, assignment, and utilization of company vehicles, trailers, and construction equipment.
  • Maintain accurate fleet records, including unit numbers, registrations, insurance, inspections, warranties, service histories, mileage, and operating hours.
  • Develop and manage preventive-maintenance and inspection schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, DMV, BIT, CHP, OSHA, and applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs, breakdown response, towing, rentals, and replacement units to minimize field downtime.
  • Review repair estimates and approve work within established authorization limits.
  • Track fleet expenses, including maintenance, repairs, fuel, tires, rentals, registrations, and insurance.
  • Monitor fuel-card activity, identify unusual usage, and ensure transactions are assigned to the correct vehicle, employee, and project.
  • Manage rental equipment and vehicles, including approvals, extensions, off-rent dates, damage documentation, and invoice reconciliation.
  • Coordinate the assignment, transfer, and return of vehicles and equipment between projects, yards, and employees.
  • Ensure all company units are properly numbered, branded, equipped, and documented before deployment.
  • Manage GPS, telematics, dash-camera, and driver-performance systems.
  • Monitor equipment utilization and recommend when to purchase, lease, transfer, replace, or dispose of assets.
  • Conduct regular fleet audits and yard inspections.
  • Maintain vendor relationships and negotiate pricing for repairs, parts, tires, fuel, rentals, and fleet services.
  • Support incident investigations involving company vehicles or equipment.
  • Verify that operators and drivers are properly licensed, qualified, and authorized for assigned equipment.
  • Develop and enforce fleet policies, inspection procedures, and accountability standards.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports covering fleet availability, downtime, utilization, repair costs, fuel consumption, rentals, and compliance.
  • Support project planning by confirming that the correct equipment is available, compliant, and job‑ready.
Qualifications:
  • Five or more years of fleet-management experience, preferably within underground utilities, electrical construction, heavy civil construction, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction vehicles and specialized utility equipment.
  • Experience managing preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, registrations, rentals, and fleet records.
  • Knowledge of DOT, DMV, BIT, CHP, OSHA, and commercial-vehicle compliance requirements.
  • Experience with GPS, telematics, fleet-management, fuel-card, and asset-tracking systems.
  • Ability to review repair estimates, identify unnecessary costs, and make sound repair-versus-replacement decisions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with field employees, foremen, superintendents, project managers, mechanics, vendors, and executive leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and fleet-reporting systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to visit project locations and respond to urgent fleet issues when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting underground civil and electric transmission and distribution operations.
  • Familiarity with bucket trucks, digger derricks, vacuum excavators, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, dump trucks, and commercial trailers.
  • Experience managing a multi-location fleet.
  • Commercial Driver’s License is a plus.
  • Experience with Samsara, ToolWatch, Fleetio, or similar platforms.
  • Technical or mechanical background is highly desirable.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Performance Expectations:

  • Preventive-maintenance completion
  • Regulatory and inspection compliance
