Job summary

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking an Operations & Maintenance Technician IV – Fleet to perform journey-level mechanical work on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles across diverse equipment. The role supports reliability of regional water operations through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, including during shutdowns.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 6+ years in automotive and heavy equipment maintenance/repair.
• Or completion of journey-level skills via a recognized trade training program with related industrial experience.
• Experience with inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of automotive equipment including pumps, compressors, and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair complex vehicle systems (gasoline/diesel engines, transmissions, emission systems, HVAC, suspension, steering).
• Maintain and repair automotive electrical, hydraulic, air brake and ABS systems across on-road/off-road equipment.
• Perform routine 90-day fleet inspections for safety and environmental standards.
• Service a wide range of fleet assets including hybrid cars, trucks, backhoes, cranes, generators.
